Ask the Author

What's her favorite childhood book?

Children’s Illustrated Dictionary, The Book of Virtues, and Rainbow Fish

What is essential to have in her writing space?

Natural light and my dog! A cup of organic tea and flowers are also very nice to have.

What does literary success look like to her?

When someone shares that they enjoyed and had positive takeaways from her work. Whether it’s the words on the page, imagery, connecting with a character, or discovering the hidden message - it’s heartwarming to hear every single time.

Where do you get inspiration from?

I find a lot of my inspiration in nature. I'm continually inspired by the beauty, complexity, and intentionality found in the world around us. Whether it's patterns, colors, textures, sounds, or the way different elements work together, nature provides endless ideas and reminds me that great design can be both beautiful and purposeful. That perspective influences how I approach my own work and encourages me to create designs that are thoughtful, engaging, and meaningful.

What was her favorite golf course to play?

Pine Needles in Southern Pines, NC will always hold a special place in my heart!

What makes the game of golf unique?

Wherever your ball ends up within the boundaries of the course, the game continues to offer a path

forward. A route to take, a shot to play, a decision to make, a different path that helps you to continue toward the hole. It may not be the one you planned, nor what you envisioned, but something can always be done from right where you are.

What author(s) inspire her?

Mary Pope Osborne, JK Rowling, Rick Riordan, Nicolas Sparks, Shonda Rhimes, Jane Austen, Michael Crichton, Homer, Judy Blume, and Squire Rushnell

What is your hope with the Powerful Parables series?

My hope is to leave a legacy that encourages readers to grow, while caring for the life and landscapes that make the game possible.

What is your favorite thing about design?

I love design because it gives me the opportunity to turn ideas into something tangible and meaningful. What I enjoy most is helping each client’s vision come to life, listening to their goals and aspirations, understanding their needs, and creating solutions that not only look great but also serve a purpose. That is what makes the work rewarding for me.

What inspired her to create the Powerful Parables series?

After years of working with junior golfers and their families, I wanted to share my love of the game in a new way through stories that bring adventure, travel, nature, and golf in a way that feels fun, meaningful, and inspiring for readers.

Ultimately, the series is about helping readers learn how they can soar on and off the course.

Favorite childhood memory with a book?

Feeling transported when reading. It’s nearly as if she's watching the book come to life around her. It still feels the same even as an adult.

Why are the rules of golf so important that you'd decide to write a book about them?

The rules of golf are the foundation of everything that makes golf so uniquely rewarding. They create a sense of universal fairness, and a time-honored tradition that allows the game to be played with steadfast integrity, often without anyone watching.

Every rule has a purpose: to protect the challenge and design of the obstacles you encounter, preserve the essence and surrounding landscape, and keep the game true for everyone who plays it. Embrace them, and you’ll discover that they don’t limit your experience, they elevate it.
