Did you know the Southeast once had 90 million acres of longleaf pine forests?
Today, less than 5% remain.
Forests are more than trees, they’re homes.
Forests, like the long leaf pines, are home to incredible species like the Red-cockaded Woodpecker and Pine Warbler, which depend on mature longleaf pines to survive.
Deforestation, development, and pesticides disrupt the delicate balance of these ecosystems affecting insects, plants, and birds.
On International Day of Forests, it’s a reminder that forests provide critical habitat for birds and wildlife around the world. They offer nesting sites, food, shelter, and safe migration stops for countless species.
Protecting forests helps protect the birds we love to read about, observe and listen to every day.
