This World Environment Day, the most meaningful action is prevention. Choosing plastic-free products, avoiding microplastics, and refusing single-use plastics prevents harm at its origin, long before wildlife is exposed.
Plastic pollution is not just visible litter, it is a long-term ecological problem.
When plastic breaks down into microplastics, it enters food webs. Birds ingest these particles directly and indirectly through prey, leading to reduced nutrition, toxic exposure, and increased mortality. Scientists have documented microplastics in birds across continents — including in chicks.
